Originally named Midland Hosiery Mills, Louis soon re-located to Hallaton Street in Leicester, the undisputed centre of hosiery at that time, where the factory manufactured ladies’ stockings. While his competitors churned out bulky, bland men’s socks, the maverick Mr Goldschmidt believed that there might be a market for a lightweight men’s sock. He persuaded local engineers P.A Bentley to create a prototype machine, which could produce just such a sock. And so, the Pantherella legend was born. Today, the company produces lightweight socks in a kaleidoscopic range of colour combinations and luxury fabrics such as cashmere, Sea Island cotton and merino wool.
